Update from Rainforest Trust: Community-Led Conservation in Eastern Congo

Partner Update | Rainforest Trust

The Congo Basin is one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth, but its rainforests are facing increasing pressure from logging, mining, unsustainable farming, and wildlife poaching. In eastern Congo, these threats are putting unique wildlife like elephants, gorillas, okapi, and pangolins at risk and damaging carbon-rich forests that play an important role in climate protection.

Rainforest Trust is partnering with local conservation leaders, including Strong Roots and Forêt pour le Développement Intégral, to support a community-led conservation model that empowers the people who live in and depend on these forests. The goal is to help establish at least 10 new Community Forests across roughly 830,000 acres of critical habitat. These forests are legally managed by local communities, strengthening land rights and giving residents the tools and authority to protect biodiversity for the long term.

This work is made possible in part through an ongoing partnership with Rainforest Trust. 2% of all sales are donated to support rainforest conservation.
